A country or rustic party gives you the opportunity to create a warm, inviting atmosphere with your own hand crafted decorations.
Rustic Party Decoration Ideas
Why spend a fortune on party decorations with a rustic feel when you can create so many interesting effects with a few household items and some imagination?
- Although strings of fairy lights don’t necessarily fall into the category of “rustic”, a fairyland of lights strung through the lower branches of large trees sets a wondrous scene.
- Terracotta strawberry pots don’t have to be used just for strawberries! Instead, fill the small ledges on the sides of the pots with river pebbles or gravel, add tea lights and you have a charming lighting accent for warm summer evenings.
- Old tin cans make wonderful receptacles for outdoor lighting with a country feel. Try to find tin cans with the labelling on the tin rather than on removable labels.

Using a strand of candelabra sized light bulbs, remove the lights bulbs from the sockets.
Punch holes in the bottom of the cans large enough for the sockets to fit through. Place each socket inside the can then screw the bulb back in.
To add an even more rustic touch, interlace the strands with vines or leaves from the garden, then hang the strand with the dangling tins across the area you wish to light and affix the strands with duct tape.
- Take a trip to your local plumbing supply store or home improvement center for a collection of copper piping. You’ll find an amazing assortment of styles and sizes, so try to collect a variety of pipes for the most interesting display.
You may need to purchase a couple of adapters to ensure you have a good fit for the candles.
Using a range of white household candles, insert them into the top of the copper pipes. You may need to slice and adjust sizing so they fit comfortably.
Finally, arrange the copper pipes in a decorative design on the table or a garden shelf. The soft patina of the copper complemented by the soft glow of the candles makes an awesome presentation.
- A hard shelled gourd doesn’t have to be saved for Halloween!
Find an interesting shaped gourd with a flat bottom, if possible. Use a sharp serrated kitchen knife to cut a hole in the base of the gourd large enough to fit your light source and scrape out the loose seeds and pulp.
Soak the gourd in warm water for 15 minutes, then scrub off any mold or dirt with a kitchen scouring pad.
Draw interesting shapes on the outside of the gourd then paint as you like with leather dye or a marker pen. Once the first coat has dried, you may need to add an additional coating for deeper color.
Drill holes into the shapes using an electric or battery powered drill. Alter the drill bits for a more interesting effect.
Finally, place the gourd over your light source for a wonderful rustic outdoor lighting display.
While we have only offered a couple of rustic outdoor party lighting ideas, a little imagination should produce an amazing display of colorful country lighting.
